It was the year Richard M. Nixon became the 37th President, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and a concert in a small Hudson Valley town outside Woodstock, NY changed the world. For all Americans, 1969 marked a time of hope tainted by a concern for the future.
TEG Federal Credit Union was started in that same spirit. A group of teachers from the Wappingers Central school district became disenchanted with their financial institutions and decided to organize a new alternative for banking and formed the Wappingers Central Federal Credit Union, which was chartered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) on April 25, 1969. Subsequently, additional school districts were added to the charter.
On March 16, 1976 the credit union expanded its field of membership to include Dutchess County Government workers and became known as the Taconic Educational and Governmental Federal Credit Union – otherwise known as TEG Federal Credit Union.
Over the years, TEG FCU’s field of membership expanded to include various select employee groups in Dutchess County. On August 24, 2000, TEG became community chartered and opened its doors to all those who lived, worked, worshiped or attended school in Dutchess County.
On December 5, 2002, the NCUA approved an extension of our community charter to a three county area and we invited in all those who live, work, worship or attend school in Dutchess, Orange or Ulster County.
Membership Eligibility
Membership into our credit union is open to EVERYONE WHO LIVES, WORKS, WORSHIPS, OR ATTENDS SCHOOL IN DUTCHESS, ORANGE, and ULSTER COUNTIES in NY. There is no cost to join our Credit Union and the benefits you realize are many. Once you join, all of your family members may also join. Also, once you become a member, you can remain a member for life regardless of where you may move and regardless of any changes in your employment (as long as you are a member in good standing).
