ServU Federal Credit Union was organized by the employees of the Corning City School District on March 15,1956. It was named "Corning Teachers Credit Union" and included only teachers and staff from the Corning School District.
In 1974 all schools in Steuben County except Hornell and Arkport were added to the charter. On June 1,1977 the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approved the name change to Steuben Educators Federal Credit Union. In 1979 the Credit Union moved to its first permanent location at 77 Victory Highway in Painted Post, New York. Two years later Steuben Educators changed from a common bond charter (educational) to a multi-occupational charter. This change enabled the Credit Union to expand towards Hornell where in April 1987 a merger occurred with the Maple City Health Care Credit Union. This new branch office operated at 174 Main Street until April 1991 when we opened the doors to our new office at 36 Genesee Street.
In July 1989 our growth continued as a merger occurred with Old Rheims Federal Credit Union located at Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport, NY. On April 1,1991 we moved this branch office to our new building at 7215 State Route 54 in Bath, NY.
July 1993 brought another expansion to Steuben Educators resulting from their merger with Keuka-Seneca Federal Credit Union. This now gave us a strong presence in Yates and Schuyler Counties. On January 6, 1996, Steuben Educators moved from their location on Main Street to their new building at 46 Millard Street off Route 14A in Dundee, NY .
In 2000, the Credit Union constructed a new Administrative Office located at 9823 Science Center Drive in Painted Post, NY.
In June 2002, Hornell and Arkport School Districts were added to our charter when Hornell School Employees and Steuben Educators merged.
On May 13, 2004 the NCUA approved the name change to ServU Federal Credit Union.
Alfred Allegeny Educational Employee’s Credit Union (located at Pioneer Center, Alfred State College) merged with ServU FCU on December 1, 2008 becoming our newest branch office.
A credit union is a member owned, not-for-profit financial institution, overseen by an elected volunteer group, which constitutes the Board of Directors. The purpose of the Credit Union is to promote thrift among its members by offering them an opportunity to accumulate their savings and to create for them a source of credit for economic and productive services. ServU offers many services to its members. Single or joint ownership on savings accounts, custodial accounts for children under 18, checking accounts, payroll deduction and direct deposit are among a few of the most widely used services. Others include Individual Retirement Accounts, club savings accounts, Visa debit and credit cards, ATM cards, consumer loans, home equity and home improvement loans, mortgages, U.S. Savings Bonds, money orders, travelers checks, cashier checks, Notary and Signature Guarantees, 24 hour automated telephone system and ATM machines at every location.
ServU FCU continues to grow and extend its services throughout Steuben, Yates and Schuyler counties. Its objectives have been well received by the residents of the area and projected growth should continue to service more members in the future.
